LEGO Star Wars: Choose Your Path

TFN Review: LEGO Star Wars: Choose Your Path From DK

Posted by Adam on June 4, 2018 at 11:12 PM CST

The latest LEGO Star Wars release from DK sees them diverging from the norm with Choose Your Path, which allows you to pick your own adventure starting from one of three paths, with Hunt the Sith, Fight the Empire and Defeat the First Order each corresponding to the prequel, original and sequel eras respectively.

If you're looking for the TL;DR version, this is what an 8 & 10 year-old had to say about it: LEGO Star Wars Choose Your Path is an interesting book where you can choose to fly with the Ghost and her crew, help Luke defeat Darth Vader, or even call for help from Resistance bombers! Help Rey defeat the First Order; you might not defeat them and then again, you might! There are three stories that you can choose to follow: 1: Hunt the Sith, 2: Fight the Empire and 3: Defeat the First Order! And on top of all that, the book comes with a silver protocol droid named U-3P0 who also accompanies you on your adventures.

Each page features a particular event in the Star Wars saga, and cleverly incorporates the appropriate LEGO vehicles and/or play sets, with most including a data file section that provides a couple of pertinent details along with some further background information. The LEGO sets are all shown to depict an appropriate scene from the movies and TV shows and span the gamut of sizes, from the relatively small Speeder Bikes to the UCS line.

At the top of the page, the scene is set, and your two choices are presented to you, each with the number of the page to turn to, based on your decision. Familiarity with the Star Wars saga may help you to some extent, but the clever weaving of different stories, including those from Rogue One and Star Wars Rebels, means that sometimes you've just got to go with your gut and hope for the best! One particular path takes you from the Tantive IV, to Lothal and then onto Scarif where you provide cover for Jyn Erso and her crew as she steals the plans to the Death Star that are then transferred back...to the Tantive IV!

With close to 120 pages of pages to choose from and more than 40 possible endings, the book provides a lot of fun, and includes a silver protocol droid called U-3PO who is featured heavily throughout the book, and provides a lot of the comic element that we've come to expect from these titles. And to round it off, U-3PO also provides a glossary of terms at the back of the book, which he says will help you make good choices throughout the book, so this might be one of those times when it pays to start at the back!

LEGO Star Wars Choose Your Path is available now online and from all good bookstores, priced $19.99 in the U.S. and $25.99 in Canada.

As always, a big thanks to DK Canada, whose Star Wars books you can check out at here. For all of your monthly roundup of Star Wars publishing news, commentary, and discussion on the latest releases in the realm of novels, comics, and magazines, don't forget to listen to Jedi Journals.
