Variety is the first to report that Rogue One scribe and unaccredited director, Tony Gilroy, will write the pilot episode of the upcoming Disney+ live-action Cassian Andor series. They are also reporting that he will direct multiple episodes as well.

From Variety...

Gilroy is set to write the pilot for the series in addition to directing multiple episodes. He will work alongside Stephen Schiff, who remains onboard as showrunner. No official premiere date has been set, but Disney had previously indicated the show would debut in 2021.

The still untitled series will be the second new live-action show premiering on Disney+ after The Mandalorian makes its debut in just a few weeks. It’s slated to begin filming early next year at Dagenham Studios in London, which is where it’s rumored the David Benioff/D.B. Weiss film trilogy will also shoot.

The live-action series was announced last November where Diego Luna was confirmed to return as Captain Cassian Andor. This past April it was announced that co-star Alan Tudyk would return to the role of K-2SO, Cassian’s repurposed Imperial droid sidekick, and Stephen Schiff (The Americans) would serve as the showrunner.

Aside from his work on “Rogue One,” Gilroy’s other writing credits include the Jason Bourne films (he directed “Bourne Legacy” with Jeremy Renner), “Michael Clayton,” “The Devil’s Advocate,” and “Dolores Claiborne.” Gilroy also directed “Michael Clayton,” for which he was nominated for a pair of Oscars.

Exactly how man episodes Gilroy will direct we just don't know but it makes sense if he's writing the pilot, he would certainly helm at least that one. Also, I'm wondering if he will end up writing more than just the first episode, which will clearly set the tone for the rest of the season.

We'll have to wait and see but I'm sure there's lots more information coming once Disney+ launches on November 12th!

Stay tuned.
