TFN Review: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - The Galactic Guide by Matt Jones From DK

Posted by Adam on February 9, 2020 at 10:38 PM CST

Aimed at younger readers, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - The Galactic Guide profiles major characters, planets, vehicles and other aspects of the movie, as well as providing further background to points briefly touched upon in the story.

Beginning with a short introduction to describe the events that have transpired since the end of The Last Jedi, the first part of the book focuses on The Resistance. Along with pages dedicated to the likes of Rey, Leia, Finn & Poe, there are also entries for Chewbacca, R2-D2, BB-8 & C-3PO, all of which include a section called "Things you need to know about..." each character. Ajan Kloss, Resistance Starships, Resistance Commanders and Millennium Falcon are among the other pages contained within the Resistance-related portion of the book, which closes with a flow chart to determine "Which Hero Are You Most Like?".

For the First Order, Kylo Ren is the only character of note to get their own page, although the Knights of Ren are individually named, while General Hux and Allegiant General Pryde are singled-out, under the heading of First Order Commanders. Also covered are First Order Troops and Vehicles, Mustafar, The Sith, Exegol, and finally Sith Troops and Sith Starships.

The remaining pages refer to the Heroes' Mission, with mention of Pasaana, Kijimi and Kef Bir, as well as Lando Calrissian, Zorii Bliss, D-O and Jannah, among other things. Lastly, the book contains another flow chart to ascertain "Which Planet Would You Like to Visit?", followed by a glossary of terms, some specific to the Star Wars universe, while others are equally relevant in the real world.

The book is a perfect introduction to the movie and includes some fun little Easter eggs that not only delve deeper into the story shown on screen, but also extend beyond the film!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker - The Galactic Guide by Matt Jones is priced $12.99 in the U.S. and $16.99 in Canada.
