Star Wars Rebels Introduces Freddie Prinze Jr. As The Jedi Kanan

Posted by Eric on February 11, 2014 at 04:52 PM CST

USA Today has a new video revealing the first hero of Star Wars Rebels, a Jedi named Kanan voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr. The story describes Kanan as a Jedi who "has been on the down-low" since the events of Revenge of the Sith. "He keeps his lightsaber under lock and key and brandishes a blaster instead to avoid the attention of the Empire, especially the Inquisitor (a Sith villain) and his Stormtroopers," writes USA Today's Brian Truitt. "But Kanan gets his Force-ful groove back with his crew on the spaceship The Ghost and fights back against the imperial menace."

Prinze says that Kanan "definitely has seen more than what a young man should see. And what he had to see was pretty much the worst thing you would have to witness."

Watch the video below, then head over to USA Today to read comments from Prinze and Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni, who calls Kanan a "cowboy Jedi."

USA Today's Truitt has also written this story about how "the current approach to the 'Star Wars' mythos in TV and movies focuses on character and humanity first, then technology."
