Star Wars Production Designer Says Tatooine Was Part Of An Upcoming Film

Ever since Solo: A Star Wars Story received a lukewarm reception at the box office, it has been blamed for all sorts of rumors circulating around the current state of affairs at Lucasfilm. One of the biggest, yet still officially unconfirmed, was that a hold was being put on all future standalone's until a later time. With nothing every really officially announced by Disney, some wondered if they were ever even a consideration in the first place. Well, thanks to a recent interview over at Cinemablend, we now know that at least one iconic Star Wars location was scouted for an anthology film.

According to production designer Neil Lamont, who has worked on Return of the Jedi, Rogue One and Solo: A Star Wars Story, one of these projects put on hold included a return to Tatooine...

"We were just starting our work on another Star Wars spin-off and yeah. We were actually just making our mark on Tatooine -- which would have been interesting and some other new galaxies. So hopefully, if that comes back, we'll get the chance to be able to do that further."

While the mention of Anakin Skywalker's home world doesn't relate to anything specifically, like say an Obi-Wan Kenobi film, we do know that there was plans to produce a Star Wars project based around the comings and goings of a local cantina. Could this confirm that it was to be the Mos Eisley watering hole known as Chalmun's Cantina? Not exactly and Lamont doesn't elaborate beyond that statement.

With all the rumors circulating as of late this comment makes sense and points to the fact that either a cantina or Kenobi based film were perhaps further along than we thought, and that it was indeed put on hold. Whether anything comes of this I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Stay tuned as more details come in.
