Netflix To Distribute Star Wars: The Clone Wars Bonus Content In The U.S.

The thirteen completed episodes from the canceled sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars will be distributed in the United States exclusively on Netflix beginning Friday, March 7, according to an early-morning announcement from Lucasfilm.

"Accompanying the 13-episode new season dubbed 'The Lost Missions' will be the entire Star Wars: The Clone Wars saga, which includes several director's cut episodes never seen on TV as well as the feature film," the announcement says. "This multi-year agreement also makes Netflix the exclusive subscription service for the entire Star Wars: The Clone Wars series."

To promote this announcement, USA Today has been given a clip of Yoda hearing "a voice" in his Jedi Temple chambers.

American fans have been anxiously awaiting details about a venue for the bonus content ever since the series was canceled on March 11, 2013. In announcing the end of the show's run on Cartoon Network, Lucasfilm said that its animation division was "continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen." Exactly seven months later, supervising director Dave Filoni revisited the subject of the bonus content, announcing that his team had completed the episodes and promising that they would debut early this year.

In Germany, TV network Super RTL is set to broadcast the first of the thirteen Season 6 episodes this Saturday, February 15 at 8:15 p.m. local time. Information about the bonus content episodes has surfaced in German TV listings. As for why Germany is proceeding differently than other markets, an insider suggested to me that Germany was the only country where the television audience was large enough to justify the cost of continuing to air the show.

An intrepid clone trooper discovers a shocking secret, Anakin Skywalker's closest relationship is tested to its limits, and what Master Yoda discovers while investigating the disappearance of a Jedi could forever change the balance of power in the galaxy. Fans will not only be able to watch the thrilling finale, they'll be able to see more of Star Wars: The Clone Wars than ever before as Netflix will also stream the director's cut of seasons one to five.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is the first time any Star Wars content has been available for Netflix streaming members. The deal follows a recent announcement from Netflix and The Walt Disney Company to bring multiple original series based on Marvel characters to the service in 2015. Netflix will be the exclusive US subscription television service for first-run, live-action, and animated movies from the Walt Disney Studios including titles from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Disneynature, and Lucasfilm beginning in 2016. Netflix members can currently enjoy a wide range of Disney, ABC Entertainment Group and Disney Channel films and TV shows across the 41 countries where Netflix operates.
