Essential Guide To Warfare Author's Cut #5: Zenith Of The Republic
Posted by Eric on February 11, 2014 at 06:58 PM CST |
Jason Fry and Paul Urquhart have posted the fifth blog post in their ongoing series detailing the material from their book, Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare, that ended up getting cut before the book was published.

This post features three passages that capture the spirit of the Republic at the height of its reach and influence. Here is co-author Paul Urquhart's introduction to the third passage, a short story he wrote called "Nightfall on Ruusan":
The Battle of Ruusan is supposed to be a big date in Star Wars history, the equivalent of Gettysburg or Waterloo. The trouble is, everything obvious about Ruusan has been said already so I wanted to approach the story from a new angle and create some characters whose attitudes didnt necessarily run in the directions the reader might expect. I also took the opportunity to explore an idea I feel is slightly underused: when Jedi knighthood becomes hereditary, an ancestral lightsaber might end up in the hands of someone who isnt very good at using the Force.
