At this year's Saturn Awards, Star Wars was well represented and all that attended went home with plenty of reasons to get dressed up. The Saturn Awards celebrates the best in science fiction, fantasy and horror films/television each year and Star Wars is no stranger to it winning plenty of awards over the years. Most recently both The Force Awakens and Rogue One did very well at the annual event each winning several awards including Best Feature Film and Best Science Fiction Film.
The event, hosted by Jonah Ray from Mystery Science Theatre, was held in Burbank California and brought out all the top names in the genres. To not much surprise, Ryan Coogler's Black Panther was well received taking home five awards overall compared to Star Wars: The Last Jedi which took home three.
In spite of some backlash on social media, The Last Jedi took home awards for best actor, best screenplay and best editing with Mark Hamill and Rian Johnson both in attendance to accept. I'm sure it was a small bit of vindication for Rian Johnson who, as stated, has faced his fair share of fan ire over his work on Episode VIII.
Editor Rob Ducsay, who was nominated before for his work on another Johnson film , Looper, won best editing for his stellar work on The Last Jedi. On the television side of things, Dave Filoni was on hand with the cast of Star Wars Rebels to accept the award for Best Animated TV Series, a feat which they achieved last year as well.
Here's the rundown:
Best Actor: Mark Hamill
Best Screenplay: Rian Johnson
Best Editing: Bob Ducsay
Best Animated TV Series: Star Wars Rebels
