Star Wars: Clone Wars TV Series Coming To Disney+

Posted by Mike on March 16, 2021 at 09:55 PM CST

ComicBook.com posted a list of upcoming titles that will be making their way to Disney+ next month. This includes several Star Wars shows including Star Wars: Clone Wars which spanned 25 episodes that aired from 2003 to 2005. Originally airing on the Cartoon Network, these micro episodes ranged from 5 to 12 minutes long. Star Wars: Clone Wars was the first foray into animation by Lucasfilm since the Star Wars: Ewoks animated series in the mid-1980s.

The series was drawn and developed by Genndy Tarakovsky, whose long list of creative projects included the PowerPuff Girls series and Samurai Jack series leading up to his selection to head up the Star Wars: Clone Wars project. Star Wars: Clone Wars would fill in the timeline between the movies Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. The series would introduce television viewers to new characters that included clonetroopers, Assaj Ventress, Durge and General Grievous. It would also give us a deeper dive into several members of the Jedi Order who had limited screen time in the first two Prequel Trilogy movies.

The series animated 2D style, stories and nods to the legacy of Star Wars endeared itself to fans and contributed to the hype building up to Revenge of the Sith. Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2014 did not grant the status of canon to Star Wars: Clone Wars, elements of the series would extend into future Star Wars endeavors. This does not diminish the impact that Star Wars: Clone Wars had on viewers and fans at large. The series received critical acclaim in the industry, winning multiple Emmys, most notably the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. Merchandise would also be produced for the series due to its popularity – that included:

• Animated action figures (Hasbro)
• Character busts (Gentle Giant)
• Character keys (Acme Archives)
