The Very First Reaction to Solo: A Star Wars Story Hits the Web

With only 4 months until the release of the much-anticipated Solo: A Star Wars Story, fans have been rightly questioning the lack of information or publicity out there regarding the film. In fact, if not for the dedicated “tweeting” of director Ron Howard during production we would have very little information at all regarding everyone’s favorite smuggler. Starwars.com has compiled all those images here in one nifty article located right here.

That all changed a few days ago when Rolling Stone posted an article stating the official synopsis for the film which was also released by Star Wars on their website. This synopsis is as follows…

"Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy," the synopsis reads. "Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes."

And while we wait with baited breath for a trailer announcement, we finally have our first reaction to the film courtesy of Holger Frick…

Frick was attending a Disney event in Germany where the company was showcasing a few of their big releases this year including Mary Poppins, Incredibles 2 and of course Solo. With all the roadblocks and troubles on set this film has experienced its nice to hear some positivity surrounding the film finally.

Also, him stating “Alden Ehrenreich is amazing…” should temper some rumors that one of the big problems was Alden’s “abilities” and troubles pulling the character together. Another curious comment is the “…had an old Star Wars feel to it!!” remark, which comes at a time when many fans were angered by the newer esthetic of Rian Johnson’s vision on The Last Jedi. Could it be that the heads over at Disney and Lucasfilm have reacted to the negativity surrounding the latest film and leaned towards a more “fan-service-movie” as Frick puts it?

It’s likely the feeling of nostalgia comes from the fact that the film relies heavily on characters and events we’ve spent a lifetime reading about. If it feels like “old Star Wars” that’s because it simply takes place at a time long before the events in the new trilogy and the production and tone should reflect that.

These of course are just his reactions to a short piece of the film and we’ll get more reactions as we get closer to the release date, but this should appease some fans for now. The next big piece of the puzzle will be the first teaser or trailer whenever that gets dropped, and you can bet that will create a massive amount of online chatter.

But whether it’s mostly positive or negative we’ll just have to wait and see. One thing you can count on is that we’ll be covering every little detail here.

Till next time…MTFBWY.
