George Lucas And Steven Spielberg Discuss The Future Of Entertainment
Posted by Eric on June 13, 2013 at 04:35 PM CST |
During a panel at his alma mater, the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts, George Lucas and his friend Steven Spielberg opined about the fate of cable television, the theater experience, and web-based television. Variety reports that the two "took a grim view of the future of the majors and predicted theatrical motion pictures will become a niche market."

Lucas, certainly no stranger to thinking big, actually went farther than that bold prediction into the realm of the fantastical, arguing that "The next step is to be able to control your dreams."

Also, while Lucas agreed with Spielberg that video games haven't been able to capture the emotional resonance that makes movies so successful on a deeper level, he predicted that his would start to change soon. "The big game of the next five years will be a game where you empathize very strongly with the characters and it?s aimed at women and girls," Lucas said.
