The Walt Disney Company's publishing division will remind Star Wars fans of the three movies that started it all with four new kids' books based on the original trilogy.
According to Publisher's Weekly, Disney Publishing Worldwide is bringing in children's authors Tom Angleberger, Tony DiTerlizzi, Adam Gidwitz, and R.J. Palacio to write the four novels. They will be illustrated by prequel trilogy concept artist Iain McCaig.
"We have this incredible opportunity to introduce a whole new generation of young readers to the world of Star Wars," said Carol Roeder, Lucasfilm's director of publishing, in a video announcing the news (first reported by Huffington Post).
The first book to be published will be The Adventures of Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight by Tony DiTerlizzi, in October 2014. This picture book -- the cover image for which is shown above -- will retell the story of Episodes IV, V, and VI using classic Ralph McQuarrie art. "These images, they're really coming right out of dialog between George [Lucas], the screenplay, and Ralph," DiTerlizzi said, "so you're really getting almost the pure imagery."
Palacio will write a retelling of A New Hope, to be published in April 2015, and Gidwitz and Angleberger will do the same for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, with their books publishing in July and October 2015, respectively.
"We are so proud to be publishing this slate of authors," Roeder said. "These stories will engage young readers and get them ready for the journey that is Episode VII and beyond."
