Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni was recently in Cannes, France, for MIPJunior, a kid-oriented companion event to the annual MIPCOM entertainment conference, which functions as a meeting place for content creators and the companies that distribute them. Filoni, who was there to sell Rebels to international distributors, gave a talk about how he and others have created the series.
Even though the audience was mostly comprised of representatives from television distributors, the talk itself is completely accessible to Star Wars fans as a window into Filoni's and Lucasfilm's thought process.
"People overlook the funny," said Filoni, who revealed that he was in France for the first time to attend the conference. "However, I always felt, and George always felt, that the funny is what bound it all together. If you're watching something that's kind of ridiculous, the funny's kind of winking at you and letting you know, 'We're in on it too, but go along for this ride because it is going to be exciting."
