With the release of Star Wars Resistance scheduled for this Fall, possibly October, we're likely weeks away from seeing any type of footage from the show. With San Diego Comic-Con next week perhaps Dave Filoni will use that opportunity to unveil a sneak peek at the highly anticipated anime inspired show. But since he's there for the 10-year anniversary of The Clone Wars, this seems unlikely.
While The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels were immensely popular, one thing neither had was an opening sequence save a title screen. Looks like Filoni plans on changing that as he has hired animator Ratn Anoop and composer Dylan McGill to craft an opening sequence for the show.
Anoop, who has been animating since 2005, is mostly known for the animated series "Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir" and "Doc McStuffins" both of which display a Manga style of colorful animation. This makes sense as early reports indicate that Filoni is looking, along with Art Director Amy Beth Christenson, to employ a more anime style of art this time around.
As for McGill, he is brand new to the scene with only one other credit to his name, this year's "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse". This is a departure for Filoni who has worked with composer Kevin Kiner exclusively throughout his career and perhaps this speaks to a shift in tone, steering away from the more traditional Williams-esque motifs we all know so well.
Both Anoop and McGill are young and relatively new to the industry so clearly Filoni is looking to usher in a new generation of Star Wars creators. We know from reports of Lucasfilm Animation hiring episodic directors that they are loading up with fresh faces looking towards the future, and that can only be a good thing in my opinion.
Check back for more reports as they come in.
Till next time...MTFBWY.
Update: Ratn Anoop's name has been removed from this position according to the Star Wars Resistance IMDB page.
