I had the pleasure of attending the world premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with a few hundred fans, celebrities, and media this past Monday. Since then I have been trying to come up with the right words to describe my sentiment of the film. This lead me to read other reviews, some were kind of negative towards our beloved saga which lead me to question what I had just seen. However, I have never been a fan of so-called "film critics", the equivalent of the arm-chair quarterback shouting at the TV on Sunday night football. For them, it is just another job, another day at the office tearing apart someone's hard work for ratings and clicks, so I will make this brief.
The film wraps up the forty-two-year journey that began in 1977 with the release of "Star Wars". Spanning close to five decades, and multiple generations, there's a reason we find ourselves at Episode 9. Simply put, people wanted it, and Disney stepped up to deliver. From the opening crawl to the credits this film doesn't slow down. It moves fast and furious to get from scene to scene as if they were trying to fit a four-hour movie into two. Being a fan who follows spoilers, even I was surprised at several events in this film. There were great moments to cheer, sad scenes to cry and some events that will just make you gasp. The visuals and sound were amazing, and despite the fight, race, fight pace of the film I really enjoyed it as a Star Wars fan. But don't take my word for it. Go see it for yourself starting this Friday, December 20th. Ignore the critics and social media, then make your own decision on whether it works for you or not. And if it doesn't, well that's ok, its not the end of the world.
