In New Interviews, Dave Filoni Discusses The Clone Wars Bonus Content

Posted by Eric on March 7, 2014 at 08:19 PM CST

Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni has spoken to Entertainment Weekly and the Los Angeles Times about the final thirteen episodes of the series, which were released today on Netflix. The interviews touch on similar themes, but both are worth reading for a glimpse inside Dave Filoni's thought process about The Clone Wars as we conclude a major era in the Star Wars franchise.

This is how Filoni explained his grand plan for the tone of the series as compared to the earlier prequel films, from the LA Times interview:

“The story went to a very dark place in ‘Revenge of the Sith,’” Filoni said. “So it was always my plan to come out of the prequel era of ‘Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Phantom Menace,’ which were more lighthearted … to the end, when the [characters] finally see the traps that have been laid for them and be powerless to stop it.”
And this is how Filoni described the Yoda story arc to EW:
One thing people ask year after year is when you are going to do more with Yoda. We tried several seasons to tell a Yoda arc, but the problem is he’d come in and be able to solve a problem in five minutes. In the end, George finally decided to tell a big story about The Force and the balance of The Force and what it means when some people appear after they die and some don’t. Fans have long wondered about that. This goes a long way to explaining that issue. These are things that were the backbone of his Jedi ideas. How can a Star Wars fan not get excited by that?
Filoni also talks about the Order 66 story arc, the fate of Ahsoka Tano, and the possibility of more stories from The Clone Wars appearing in some form.

These two quotes are from the EW interview:

Regarding Ahsoka: "Obviously there were plans for Ahsoka that haven't happened yet. [...] That story isn't finished yet but I'm still here so you never know."

And regarding more content gleaned from planned episodes: "I'm sure we'll find a way to find root for them in some manner in the future. I hope to be around for a long time."
