While the final cut of the movie opens with an Imperial fleet preparing to attack the plenty Jakku, Abramsí original vision and storyboard was for the film to begin with republic vessels towing an Imperial Star Destroyer into the gravitational pull of Jakku. It would then crash, before Rey surfaced to scavenge the wreckage. While parts of the sequence did make it into the film, mystery surrounds why it was dropped from the opening.
