Disney Re-Ups With Pinewood Studios

Posted by Steve on September 8, 2019 at 08:37 AM CST

Looks like DEADLINE is the first to report that Pinewood Studios and The Walt Disney Company have agreed to extend their successful working relationship another 10 years.

From Pinewood Studios...

Pinewood has entered into a long-term agreement with The Walt Disney Company Limited. The arrangement will see Disney take all the stages, backlots and other production accommodation at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

Paul Golding, Chairman of Pinewood Group Limited, said: “It’s wonderful to have Disney here at Pinewood. They’ve been making great films with us for many years and the fact they want to shoot so many more here is testimony not only to the quality of the teams and infrastructure at Pinewood, but also to the British film industry as a whole.”

Pinewood Studios is a British film and television studio situated just outside of London and has served as a production facility for every Star Wars film since 2015's "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" The relationship between the UK film industry and Star Wars goes all the way back to the original Star Wars films, when George Lucas filmed portions of the first episode at Elstree Studios, also just outside of London.

A story over at Making Star Wars back in April suggests that the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss possible trilogy will NOT be filmed at Pinewood, but rather at nearby Dagenham Studios. With the Cassian Andor series already filming there (Dagenham), we're not sure what this means for Pinewood Studios and future Star Wars projects, but it's worth keeping an eye on.

We'll have to wait and see but it's worth mentioning of course that Star Wars isn't the only franchise that Disney owns and already uses Pinewood for many, many other films.

Stay tuned for more!
