NYCC: Star Wars On The Floor

Posted by Jay on October 14, 2013 at 12:52 PM CST

Star Wars was well represented at the Jacob Javits Center this last weekend. Besides the high profile panel on Star Wars: Rebels and some collectibles on display, there was still many things for fans to marvel at.

Dark Horse Comics: The current comic book publishers were on site, and revealed in one of their panels that Matt Kindt (Mind Mgmt) would be writing an upcoming 4-issue mini-series for the company in early 2014. They also had an exclusive black & white cover (by Jan Durrsema) of The Star Wars #1 on sale (limited to just 1,000 copies).

47North: This company, which is a division of Amazon, had the new Bounty Hunter Code book on display, which looks to be a great addition to the existing The Jedi Path and Book of the Sith. They also had promotional material available on the previous books.

DK Publishing: With lots of different Star Wars books in their repertoire, they had the latest on display, including the latest Brickmaster set, Battle for the Stolen Crystals, Star Wars: Complete Vehicles, and The Yoda Chronicles.

Science Fiction Book Club: On display at this tiny booth, were the three original hardcover books originally published by the SFBC. The gents working the booth had almost opted not bring them, but after I struck up a conversation about the history of Star Wars and the SFBC, they were glad they had! They even showed off the original advert for Star Wars by George Lucas, at a whopping $2.95!

Abrams Books: On display was the new mass-market edition of Star Wars: Frames, which is definitely more affordable than the previous edition.

Del Rey Books: Sharing real-estate with other aspects of the company, the Star Wars group, had a nice corner slot, with displays promoting recent and upcoming books, including Darth Maul: Lockdown by Joe Schreiber and the Death Star Owner's Technical Manual. They also handed out the same freebies that have been a staple of other conventions this summer including the Krayt Dragon call (promoting Kenobi), the 2013 Collected Short Stories and several promotional posters.

All in all, a fun event and a great opportunity for pop-culture fans on the East Coast to experience a super-mega comic convention!
