Disney Cruise Lines is no stranger to Star Wars. Since 2016, they've been offering passengers an entire morning, afternoon and evening of Star Wars fun during their Star Wars Day at Sea which takes place on select cruises throughout each year. There are activities for both children & adults, themed food, lots of characters, photo ops, you can watch the movies on the big screen, a Star Wars celebrity of some sort is on board for select scheduled events, you get to experience the only fireworks at sea and more.
In 2022, the Disney Wish, Disney Cruise Lines newest vessel, will make its maiden voyage in the summer which will also offer the brand new Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge. It will be a high-end Star Wars experience like no other and the theming will resemble something that Dryden Vos might appreciate. The idea is...you are on a Star Wars ship and the locations change at random. One has to wonder if there will be a time limit of sorts as it would be no surprise for fans to just camp out waiting to catch every little detail.
StarWars.com spoke to Danny Handke, a senior creative director of Walt Disney Imagineering, who gives some really great insight into the thought process behind the lounge itself and how they came up with everything. This will be completely different than anything that's come before it and all of the offerings available will be new and exclusive to the Disney Wish. During the day, children will be able to experience their own adventures within the lounge, but at night, it's just for the adults on board.
According to Handke, ILM created brand new content that guests will be able to experience through the large viewport into space behind the bar and a holotube that plays transmissions from other ships. Of course, you can expect all sorts of easter eggs and amazing Star Wars content.
Does that sound like something you need to see for yourself? If so, early reservations for Castaway Club members and select Disney Guests begins on May 17, 2021. Reservations open to the general public on May 27, 2021.
