Star Wars LEGO Extraordinary Droid

DK Publishing Releases Two Fun New Star Wars Books

Posted by Steve on April 25, 2020 at 09:06 AM CST

DK Publishing, long time publisher of many great Star Wars and LEGO Star Wars reference books, has just released two fun new books that both you and your kids will enjoy!

“LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia New Edition” by Elizabeth Dowsett and “Star Wars: Extraordinary Droids” by Simon Beecroft are both sure to delight Star Wars fans of all ages! Both are updated to include The Rise of Skywalker and are a fun and sure-fire way to introduce your kids to world of Star Wars through the LEGO and droid experience.

Who knows, you might even have a little fun yourself, I know I did!

LEGO Star Wars

Following in the footsteps of the previous editions (2011, 2015), DK Publishing’s LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia New Edition gets you your LEGO Star Wars minifig fix in a fun and dynamic way!

Written by Elizabeth Dowsett (LEGO Star Wars Ideas Book), this updated edition now includes most of the Disney-era releases including The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, Solo: A Star Wars Story, Rogue One, and even The Rise of Skywalker! But noticeably absent is the animated series Star Wars Resistance and the LEGO Star Wars series The Freemaker Adventures.

And of course, the best-of-the-best from previous releases are all here, including the first six films and the two animated series’, The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.

At 224 jam-packed pages long, it is the ultimate guide to the best 200+ minifigures from the LEGO Star Wars galaxy. And as always, the book comes with it’s very own minifigure, this time you get an exclusive Solo: A Star Wars Story version of Darth Maul!

Here’s the publisher’s summary…

DK's updated LEGO(R) Star Wars(TM) Character Encyclopedia now includes many more new LEGO Star Wars minifigures! Meet amazing minifigures from all the Star Wars movies--now including some of the latest new characters from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Discover incredible LEGO Star Wars facts, such as which minifigure is the rarest and which can be found in the most LEGO sets. This new updated edition contains 200 best-loved minifigures, including Luke Skywalker, C-3PO, Chewbacca, Rey, Kylo Ren, and BB-8. The book also comes with an exclusive LEGO Star Wars minifigure!

Star Wars Extraordinary Droids

Written by Simon Beecroft (LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary), “Star Wars: Extraordinary Droids” is a children's reference book that covers most of the droids that can be found in the Star Wars galaxy!

Big, small, friendly, useful, they’re all here and shrewdly arranged from smallest to largest, including a handy-dandy height index at the back of the book. For a children’s book, this is a very clever insertion, the height index, that will allow kids of various ages to identify more closely with a droid that matches their own height. It’s like a Star Wars growth chart!

The lineup of droids is wide-ranging, covering all eleven feature films, including The Rise of Skywalker, and the three animated series to date including Star Was Resistance! So not to worry Chopper and CB-23 fans, they’re both included!

Don’t let the category fool you, because while it may be for kids mostly, as a fan of droids, I had a great time flipping through the book and even learned a small thing or two! And for the record, I’m as tall as a Droideka and a Police Droid.
At $16.99 (currently $12.99 on Amazon!) the book is priced right, and really, the glossary of terms and the height index at the back of the book is worth the price alone!

From the publisher…

This Star Wars guide with a twist showcases a world of droids in close-up detail. Arranged from smallest to biggest, more than 50 droids of the galaxy are revealed with stunning photography and gorgeous artwork. The evocative descriptions will delight children and let them discover amazing droid facts, such as what tools R2-D2 uses and why GNK droids make a “gonk gonk” noise! Each page features fun droid facts and detailed close-up photographs for children to pore over, including firm favorites such as C-3PO and BB-8 as well as more unusual ones such as Professor Huyang, police droids, tiny probe droids, and new The Rise of Skywalker droid D-O.

Star Wars Extraordinary Droids is a perfect gift for children who can’t get enough of a galaxy far, far away. The book covers droids small (quiet, little mouse droids) and big (vulture droid starfighters), kind (memoir-writing PZ-4CO) and scary (droidekas) and will be a treasured favorite book to keep.
