The Mandalorian

Remember the first time you saw those weird little ugnaughts in The Empire Strikes Back in 1980? Did you instantly think of Nick Nolte when you did? Neither did I, but that hasn't stopped Jon Favreau from casting Nolte as one.

Our good friends at are reporting that their sources have indicated to them Nick Nolte will be playing an ugnaught in next year's "The Mandalorian" More to the point he'll be voicing the part thanks to some state-of-the-art technology...

"Nolte’s character will not be digital. It doesn’t appear Nolte is performing the role on set either. Instead a new practical animatronic mask has been developed that works on voice command. So the mask which is being worn by a small woman matches Nolte’s infliction perfectly. The mask’s mouth movement is said to be phenomenal. MSW sources also have said that the mask was developed by Stan Winston’s Shop of experts."

What's an ugnaught? I guarantee you've seen one if you've been watching a healthy amount of Star Wars film and television. Ugnaughts are hard-working humanoid porcine-like creatures who have appeared in a couple of Star Wars films and every TV series including Star Wars Resistance. They are most remembered for their shenanigans on Bespin, especially in the carbon freezing chamber.

We don't know yet which side of the battle Nolte's character will be on or how much he'll be involved, that information will leak eventually.

This news comes hot on the heels of a few other things that we learned recently courtesy of They are reporting that bounty hunters IG-88 and Bossk, who also debuted in The Empire Strikes Back, may show up in The Mandalorian as well. Both have been seen on set although names aren't confirmed at this time.

And today we learned that music composer Ludwig Göransson will write the original music for The Mandalorian. Göransson, whose credits include "Black Panther, "Creed" and "Creed 2", had this to say about getting this huge opportunity...

“Words fail to express how surreal and humbling it feels to be invited into the Star Wars universe,” Göransson said. “I am deeply grateful to Jon Favreau and Disney for this opportunity and to John Williams for raising the bar so high with his iconic, intrepid scores — they will never be matched. In these next months I hope to honor the tradition of Star Wars’ musical landscape while propelling The Mandalorian into new and unchartered territory. And I will try to remember that there is no try.”

Well, that's it for now. Stay tuned as the next few months should be very exciting as more and more details come out.
