Dark Horse Comics Puts a Price on Marvel's Head

Posted by Justin on April 1, 2015 at 12:57 PM CST

War! The Force is with Marvel's new Star Wars comics, but Dark Horse isn’t quite done with the galaxy far, far away yet.

Earlier today the former publisher of Star Wars comics issued a bounty for as many heads (read: covers) of January’s Star Wars #1 from Marvel as comics retailers can send them. For every twenty copies they receive, these retailers will get an Adam Hughes variant of Barb Wire #1 to promote the return of the bounty hunter.

From Dark Horse Comics:
SEND IN ‘STAR WARS’ #1 COVERS, GET A SPECIAL ‘BARB WIRE’ #1 VARIANT

DARK HORSE TO OFFER ADAM HUGHES ‘BARB WIRE’ #1 VARIANT TO RETAILERS IN EXCHANGE FOR ‘STAR WARS’ #1 COVERS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MILWAUKIE, OR—Dark Horse’s number-one bounty hunter, Barb Wire, is back, and even more audacious! She’s ready to take no prisoners, and to celebrate her return, Dark Horse is offering retailers a special opportunity to get their hands on a rare variant cover.

For every twenty covers of Marvel’s standard Star Wars #1 that retailers send to Dark Horse, they’ll get an ultra-rare Barb Wire #1 variant by Adam Hughes for FREE, with a clear message: don’t f*** with Barb Wire.

Additionally, in a related promotion for the recently announced King Tiger miniseries, Dark Horse is planning to present a fully grown Bengal tiger to one lucky fan. The tiger, whose name is King (naturally), is a three-year-old male, nine feet, nine inches in length, and weighs approximately 470 pounds. (Please note: tiger refuses to wear crown.)

Look for more information on both these promotions in the coming weeks!

Barb Wire #1

Adam Hughes (Cover)
On sale in July

King Tiger #1
Randy Stradley (W)
Doug Wheatley (A/Cover)

Of course, there’s absolutely, positively no way this could possibly be an April Fool’s Day joke. Dark Horse would NEVER make light of giving away a tiger. Would they?
