SPY REPORT: Wandering Around Posted By Joshua on May 29, 2001
Insiders have been distributing details in this thread about some spoiler Tatooine scenes in Episode II. Here's a summary of the details:
Want to know why Shmi is wandering around out in the desert of Tatooine? Well, she's not just out there for a picnic. Shmi doesn't just randomly wander into the desert and get taken by the Tuskens. She is checking the moisture vaporators on the Lars farm and gets captured by a raiding party. Pretty unlucky it would seem.
The Tusken "village" is a desert tent encampment about an oasis waterhole in the shade of a rocky bluff. There's a LOT of Tuskens there, including children, females and of course the familiar male Tusken raider we saw originally in ANH.
Anakin has vivid visions and nightmares concerning his mother, needless to say he hasn't been sleeping well of late. At least not since about the time his mother was taken.
She was taken some time ago, and somewhere in there Cleigg is running around now on a special chair made just for him after an injury from the creatures. Cliegg was part of a fairly large rescue team. He barely survived and Anakin later on finds his tattered posse completely torn to shreds. Eeopie's are lingering in the area as well.
There is a swoop bike (seen in earlier Select pictures) that Anakin takes to this encampment, and interestingly enough it belongs to Owen. The Tuskens have made an encampment around an oasis. Anakin does get there at night after leaving the Lars homestead at dusk. He infiltrates the camp and finally finds the tent holding Shmi, who is tied to a wooden beam and has been savagely beaten.
But why did they pick on her? What possible reason could the Tuskens could have for Shmi? And what happens next? We can only hope our insiders and folks in the know will chime in with more soon.
And finally here's a description of some artwork of the scene above as well:
As for the Tusken camp, I've seen the production designs. Anakin's up on the bluff looking down on the camp at night before he makes his way into the camp. There are about a dozen weird bulbous "meringue-dollop" shaped canvas tents with curved skyward pointing protective spikes pointing from them (maybe there's some aerial predator on Tatooine that we don't see, or they're protection against Krayt dragons, or something.) The tents are scattered around a bare waterhole, no vegetation, where Banthas are drinking. There are about 30 to 50 Tuskens.
And if you're interested, the scene with Anakin looking down at this location was among the recent reshoots at Ealing Studios. Several parts of this were shot again, so expect some differences in the final version.
