SPY REPORT: Training Vader Posted By Joshua on June 3, 2000
So just who is this guy who got the first crack at Hayden Christensen? Sayed Najem, a former Olympic Silver medalist for Canada, was given the task of heading up the initial fight and defense training of the teenage Anakin Skywalker. Our first reports now surface, suggesting he would only be training Hayden for 5 days so he had to make them count. Check this out, courtesy of an escaped Slave:
I talked with Sayed for a while and really he knows very little about the actual production, and that even he and Hayden himself at this point hadn't seen the actual script.
He didn't he teach him any special moves, just the basics of the technique. Sayed said he a fast learner and also mentioned that Hayden had already known a little bit of fighting, perhaps from his stage combat experience from the past.
And get this - Hayden's working on getting a cameo role lined up for Episode III for his master and friend. It was more of a promise, like, 'you will be there with me for Episode III, and I'll even try to get you cast as an extra.' There's a lot of trust between Hayden and Sayed it seems. They've known each other for years, but to say they were close friends might be an exaggeration.
As you've previously reported, Hayden was leaving for Australia very soon, but doesn't really even know when they'll be travelling to other countries for filming. Basically, Sayed was just impressed with how good of a kid Hayden is, and how he hasn't let this get to his head.
What better way to get your name out then to be the guy who trained Anakin Skywalker? Sayed is most certainly (and wisely) using this as a career opportunity as well. The insider further confirmed that as far as Sayed knew as of last week that he will not be going to Oz, and as a matter of fact is in Edmonton, Alberta right now.
This is Hayden's first steps into a much larger world ... now leave the rest of the training to Nick Gillard in Australia. Look for more soon.
