SPY REPORT: The Revelation of Episode II?

Posted By Scott on October 14, 2001

We've heard a lot about the plot of Episode II, but so far there has been no indication of an earth shattering "Luke, I am your father" type of revelation in the movie. However, a new spy named Earthmonkey has checked in. He has sent us several reports in the past which we never posted, but they ended up being true. He also sent us this latest report, but we haven't yet confirmed it with other spies. If what he says is true, it could be the major twist of AOTC. If not, it's still interesting. Highlight to read:

As you know, Shmi Skywalker / Lars is killed in Episode II apparently by Sand People. In retaliation, Anakin slaughters a family of Tusken Raiders and takes his first major step to the Dark Side.

However.....it's possible the Sand People didn't kill Shmi.

Earthmonkey reports the following:

Aurra Sing does in fact make an appearance in Episode II - she has actually been tracking Shmi and ultimately is Shmi's killer. This taps into a much deeper plot point and probably the "major revalation" of Episode II as to Anakin's "true" origins and exactly how long Aurra has been tracking Shmi and "Who" sent her.

So it would appear that Aurra Sing sets up Shmi's murder to look like the San People did it. As I said above, we have yet to confirm this report with another source. But I (Scott) like it (whether it's accurate or not) for several reasons:

1. It echoes back to A New Hope when the Stormtroopers kill the Jawas and make it look like the Sand People did it.

2. It would be a good way for Palpatine to give Anakin a good kick towards the Dark Side, assuming he hired Aurra Sing to kill Anakin's mother.

3. Having Shmi killed would be a good way to lure Anakin and Padme out of hiding. As we know, it works.

4. By elaborating more on Shmi, Anakin, and Palpatine, it's a more interesting and mysterious origin for Anakin than Shmi getting pregnant by the Force.

5. It would explain why Aurra Sing was hyped during Episode I and in later merchandise, but then was totally dropped from mention as Episode II went into production. She would be connected to a major spoiler.

So just to reiterate, none of this is confirmed by us yet, but it will probably generate some interesting discussion.
