SPY REPORT: Quick and Painless

Posted By Joshua on October 12, 2001

Darth Morris and friends continue to share more of their reaction to seeing some AOTC footage (reminder: unfinished) in the past weeks. Some interesting tidbits, scenes coming to life and new spoilers round out their latest report:

Spoilers - Use your mouse to highlight the hidden text below!

The chase itself takes us to some very amazing looking sets, such as the Ex-Marine Dexter. This CGI creation is going to be one of the coolest characters yet in the prequel films. I have to be very careful what I say here, but he is a cross between a frog and a gecko, but with multiple arms and he smokes a cigarette. He runs the Diner, who's denizens include several other CGI creations such as a Dug, a Rodian playing what looks like an Arcade game, and several other exotic patrons. There seems to be a bit of history between Obi-Wan and Dexter.

Obi-Wan asks him about why he had quit his mercy missions, and the alien replies that he didn’t have a choice. Your pep-talks sunk in, old friend, he says or something like that. Of course, the conversation shifts to discussing what bring them to his establishment. It was great to actually see Obi-Wan being less straight-faced in these scenes, he seems to have a look of fondness on his face for Dexter and it that they both are very good friends.

Anakin, meanwhile, stands next to Obi-Wan, getting a good look at the patrons, who give the young Jedi dirty looks. The Diner itself is very modernized and is obviously based on the diners of the 50s’ Lucas’ favorite period. The seats and the windows all look based on Happy Days or American Graffiti, but its very cool as you've seen from pictures and the like. Obi-Wan hands a dart to Dexter who then examines it, and seems very shocked by it. Obi and Anakin know that Dexter knows more than he is letting them in on.

He appears almost startled, then asks where the Jedi found it. Now this is might not seem very funny without seeing it, but Obi-Wan points to his heart and says: About here. Quick and Painless.

Dexter gives a brief description of the “Kyber” dart and where it is made and gives us a little more insight into Obi-Wan's past with Dex. You're going to love this stuff, I'm telling you now.

You've been asking for it, there it is. Now go talk about it.
