SPY REPORT: New Outtakes for Episode I DVD?

Posted By Joshua on July 23, 2001

LuvsJarJar writes in with a "friend of a friend" report that originally I (Josh) just fell in love with. Now keep in mind this may not be entirely accurate, though we've done some homework and it does appear to be likely but we'll still call it a rumor (hence the purple font). Anyhow, enough of the disclaimer and enjoy this rumor report on the Episode I DVD possible extras:

I heard about a person who works at LucasLand who told my friend that they have heard about footage of outtakes that have been created especially for the DVD. These outtakes are presented in a similar fashion to the type Pixar has been doing on Toy Story 2 and Bug's Life (but not added over the end credits, so don't worry).

They even described two of them:

One outtake comes during the scene where Amidala requests help from Boss Nass at the Sacred Place. In the original footage, R2 accidentally falls over in the middle of the take causing the cast to break up laughing. ILM went back and added Jar Jar to the scene bumping into R2 causing him to topple. In another outtake, Qui Gon grabs Jar Jar's tongue during the dinner scene but refuses to let go even after you hear "cut". The Jar Jar mumbles "Can I have my tongue back" as the crew breaks up.

I know these scenes weren't included in the official announcement so perhaps they'll be added as Easter Eggs or fun bonus stuff. I guess we'll find out soon.

This just sounds too hilarious - I love the idea! Still no official word or anything else about an Episode II connection yet, but still a very cool update on the DVD.

UPDATE
Ki-Edi-Mundi points out this old Jedicouncil question as a potential source for outtakes as well:

One time, George was giving me direction on some computer generated robots for a shot and he was being very specific about their timing, movements, etc. So when I delivered the shot to him, at its end, I had the robots turn to camera and ask George "How was that take for you?" They then said they would be in their trailer. There are a few more like this, some much more funny, but you may see them someday, so I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise now.
