SPY REPORT: Meeting of the Minds Posted By Joshua on April 2, 2002
Behemoth sent a description of a scene in Episode II that is one of the very first where we see Christopher Lee's character:
It is a bit unusual, but would you believe that we hardly see Count Dooku for nearly 100 scenes into the movie? Usually late character introductions mean poor performances, but in this case, it is intentional. We've heard about the Lost Twenty, seen his bust in the Jedi Library, and he has been referenced in the movie several times. So here we are at about the hour and a half mark in the film and we finally meet him. It has been worth the wait.
It is all about the money. Count Dooku is scheming behind the scenes, much like Chancellor Palpatine for his own good. With Jango Fett by his side he begins a strong proposition to the Separatists. He's convinced the Commerce Guild, the Intergalactic Bank Clan and the Corporate Alliance all to join him. Not to mention a few corrupt senators to boot.
Of these groups, the Corporate Alliance is fully in support. They will sign the treay without question or reservation. The Commerce Guild, on the other hand, will pledge its support, but under the table as not to raise too many eyebrows. And the bankers agree to the deal, but as we all know they're in it with everyone already so why not add another. Corruption all over the place.
Obi-Wan is reeling from what he has just heard. He must contact Anakin immediately.
(In an interesting note, a scene involving his R4 Starship Droid and annoying bug characters called Royas was deleted immediately following this crucial scene of sucession. I think it was a good cut, the humor of this moment contrasts sharply with the intense momentum of this scene.)
