SPY REPORT: Leeanna Walsman NOT Playing Aurra Sing

Posted By Joshua on September 12, 2000

TFN posted a story yesterday talking about the role that Aurra Sing could play in the prequel-sequel. We've received some detailed information from a source that partially confirms and clarifys the earlier report. Seems there was more to the story than first thought.

Spoilers! Uncover by using your mouse to highlight:

It has been assumed that Australian actress Leanna Walsman will play the infamous bounty hunter we all saw in the cameo from Episode I over the pod race. TFN's latest spy, codenamed TimeLord, chimes in with a detailed report on set, including the revelation that the actress does play a bounty hunter (as confirmed by the official site), but not the one you were expecting. Most excellent.

There were about 100 extras there on set that day, and they all moved into set 2 for filming. The first thing anyone noticed on set was, you guessed it, a large blue screen at one end. The rest of the set was actually constructed to about 30ft high, obviously the rest to be dropped in by ILM.

The scene was listed as a "street scene" and the set was obviously a large thoroughfare about 20m wide and probably 80m long. The walls had some parts illuminated, and certain parts of the floor (I would say drains, I suppose) had steam coming from them. The extras were placed throughout the streets and were given loose direction by the multitude of Assistant Directors. The scene did have Obi-Wan in it.

Regarding Obi-Wan's costume (as you've seen it via spy photos), his hair and beard trully does add another ten years on Ewan's appearance. His hair is kept neat and tidy at around shoulder length, and his beard is a little rough but not untidy. His clothes were the same as those you saw in the Daily Telegraph's photos. They appeared quite comfortable for Jedi Master to get around in.

There is also an interesting tidbit here, as there was also that yellow speeder/prop you mentioned on TFN earlier in the general vicinity of the set. Must tie into this scene somewhere I would think.

Later that afternoon they filmed another large street scene this time involving Obi-Wan and Anakin. This scene and the next saw them running around between all the members of the crowded streets. The next scene also involved a third character, this should excite you, one particular person by the name of Leeanna Walsman, the bounty hunter that has tweaked everybody's interest.

I did read the bounty hunter's name on the call sheet once and heard it on set and I will however let you in on a minor detail, her two-word name is NOT Aurra Sing. She appeared in the next few scenes mostly with Anakin, Obi-Wan only did the first couple. The last few scenes involved a very tight shot of Anakin first and then Leeanna. You may remember the first George Lucas select photo, where we see a very blurred image of Anakin running behind a steady-cam. That was this scene.

More soon, but enjoy this for a while.

OK, so here's my (Josh) take on this scoop. Obviously, if this is true about Walsman not being Sing, we've got major bounty hunters on the loose in this movie. Perhaps she's another Fett, possibly even Ambu Fett, which was a domain secured recently by Lucasfilm. Sounds like a partner in crime with Jango Fett, and his son Boba Fett. We've been promised more of the inside look of Episode II, look back for another report tomorrow!
