Speculation on Lee's Character

Posted By Sebastian on October 9, 2000

The following report contains the name of a character in Episode II, and could possibly be considered a spoiler, so highlight below to read:

Possible Spoiler. Highlight below to read:

As you've probably heard, the name of Christopher Lee's character will probably be Count Dooku, a name that's had some people scratching their heads. Well, Brom chimes in with this report which may shed some light on why Lucas chose the name:

Just thought I might mention that "Dooku" means "Poison" in Japanese. (Though it's spelled "Doku", but it's pronounced the same). Not sure what this means, but considering Lucas' affinity for for Kurosawa films and eastern culture and philosophy, it makes sense that this would be a character name if nothing else.

Might shed some light on any question of him being a baddie, huh?

So, what significance does poison have? One of Dooku's weapons maybe, or does it describe his character? People take in poison without realising what it really is, and it slowly destroys them from the inside...maybe the situation with Dooku is similar?

Got any ideas on this, or any other names? Send them in!
