Northern Chill: Ice Age minus Clone War in Canada
Posted By Chris on March 16, 2002
Since our first report earlier this evening about the "Clone War" trailer not being attached to "Ice Age", reports from TFN readers in Canada have been pouring in, confirming that, apparently, in most theaters in Canada the trailer is NOT running with the computer-animated children's movie. Hi! I just watched Ice Age on Friday and was quite disappointed. I didn't see any Star Wars trailer; neither Forbidden Love nor Clone War! I live in Ontario, Canada so maybe we don't get the American trailers. Saw the post on TFN and thought I might comment. (from Kamil) Yeah, I went to see Ice Age on Friday afternoon (in Ottawa-Ontario) & didn't get to see the trailer either. Talk about false advertising. There was a posting up on the box office window saying that they weren't allowed to show a PG trailer with a family rated film. Very dissapointing. (Josh Stafford) Yea my husband Craig and I went to see Ice Age today in Toronto Theatres at the Paramount at John and Richmond streets. And lo and behold NO TRAILER FOR ATTACK OF THE CLONES AT ALL!. Was rather dissapointed but had a good laugh anyhow at ice age. Good thing I taped it on my VCR last Sunday night. (Kathy) You asked for people to write in with news on whether they were able to see the Clone Wars trailer before the movie Ice Age. At the Famous Players theater in Brampton, Ontario they are not showing the trailer. Their reason: Clone Wars is rated PG (parental guidance) while Ice Age is rated F (family). (Tracy) Hey there, Craig here from Toronto. The Episode II is not playing in front of Ice Age here. The reason, according the TC Fox, is because Ice Age is rated "family" and Clone Wars is rated "PG", therefore they are unable to show it. It SUCKS ! I left work at noon to go and see it and was VERY disappointed. When I spoke to the Manager of the Theatre he said I wouldn't be able to see it anywhere in Toronto because of the rating. Let's hope someone changes their mind. (Craig) Thus far we haven't received any word of "Clone War" playing with "Ice Age" in Canada, at all. Interestingly, we've heard that some theaters are showing the "Forbidden Love" trailer instead of "Clone War". And some are showing no trailers whatsoever. So what's going on? Why the "cold front" freezing out "Clone War" for our friends in the Great White North? One answer may be in some info Dark Vengeance passed along to us: Just a follow up regarding Clone War not showing with Ice Age. Twentieth Century Fox had sent a memo out to theatres in Ontario, (and most likely the rest of Canada). Because each province has a different rating system and not one on a federal level like the MPAA in the U.S., Ontario theatres will not show the trailer on Ice Age because Ice Age is rated F (Family), and Star Wars will most likely get a PG (Parental Guidance) rating. Apparently an F movie must show F rated film trailers, as a PG movie can show PG film trailers(as well as F) etc... To date we haven't heard of the "Clone War" trailer being attached to "Ice Age" in any Canadian theater. UPDATE: Dark Vengeance adds the following: The theatres did get the clone war trailer, they all have it. They are waiting for a PG movie to attach it to. But now we are beginning to receive reports that in some Canadian theaters, "Clone War" is attached to "Ice Age"! At least in some cinemas... I live in Montreal, Quebec and I saw Ice Age Friday night. The "Clone War" trailer WAS included with the other trailers before the film. However, we didn't get to see the trailer on tv last sunday. Maybe that's why the trailer was available in theatre here!! (Sternite) It's showing in Saskatoon, SK at Pacific Cinemas with Ice Age, just saw it today. (Corina Macleod) Just reading your post about "Clone War" not playing with Ice Age up here in the Great White North. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, smack dab in the center of the country. I went with my girlfriend to see Ice Age on Friday, and "Clone War" was the first trailer up there, and I must say it was just amazing... far better than watching it on my tiny 17" monitor. So there ya have it, I guess Winnipeg IS the center of it all afterall, eh? (Jay from The 'Peg) It's a state of confusion, eh? Best advice we can offer is: call the theater in advance and ask them if "Clone War" is running with anything.
