This is the first Star Wars novel to benefit from being written after the Episode II script was completed. How did that affect your storytelling?

I had completed a first draft of the novel by the time I read the script. Without going into specifics, I will say that the script provided insight into the inner workings of the Senate, and hinted at important alliances. As several people have already surmised, the Inter-Galactic Bank Clan and the Commerce Guild are Episode II references. Mr. Lucas asked me to introduce a character that will appear in the film. Certain elements of Cloak won't be fully grasped until Episode II is released.
