Toon Zone Clone Wars Chapter 21 Reviews Posted By Britany on March 17, 2005
Toon Zone has posted 3 reviews of the 1st episode of Clone Wars Season 3, aka Volume 2. Here are excerpts from all three:
Review 1 The best thing about the new chapters is the aforementioned extended run time. The previous series did feel a little bit too "micro," and often the episodes seemed to end before they could really start. With twelve minutes not only can we see more story, we can really get swept up into the world the series so meticulously creates. By the time the first episode ends, you?ll feel that you?ve watched more than just a quick clip of animation. The new series feels like a genuine part of the Star Wars saga and it?s a real treat to see some major plot points that won't be revealed in the movies.
Review 2 All of it still bears the all the hallmarks of Tartakovsky's apt direction, but it's reinforced with some more Lucas-esque elements. Given that there are more opportunities to switch from scene to scene and planet to planet, Star Wars' signature wipe transitions are much more prominent this time around. It's a lovely touch that gives the series more of the feel of an actual Star Wars film instead of a series of shorts. In fact, by the end of the first episode, the pace feels so theatrical that it makes one wonder whether Genndy simply directed this new set of shorts as one piece, then sub-divided it into 5 episodes.
Review 3 One thing you are bound to notice as Clone Wars' first chapter roars across TV screens next Monday at 7 PM on Cartoon Network is that the voice actors are actually earning their pay this time around. If your number one complaint is that the first series was largely made up of visually outstanding silent films, you will probably be very surprised by this year's continuation of the now-classic Star Wars animated franchise. There is more dialogue in the opening chapter of this season than in all of the chapters of the original series combined.
