TFN Reviews Revenge of the Sith
Posted By Joshua on May 7, 2005
If you want to know what we think of Episode III, look no further. In fact, we're compiling a list of scores of Revenge of the Sith reviews for you to track on. Should you see it? Is it good? Is this "the one"? Here you go!
TFN STAFF REVIEWS JOSHUA GRIFFIN This is a great Star Wars film ? the best of the prequels without question. In many fans minds this will fall under Empire and A New Hope, and I think that is a fair analysis. A powerful movie that you?ll not want to miss, weakened by one vulnerable act and a few nitpicky problems. I saw it once today, and I?m already anxious to see it again. You will be, too. [read review]
SCOTT CHITWOOD Well, the Saga is finally complete for me! A few hours ago I saw Revenge of the Sith at a press screening here in Houston. To put it simply, it?s probably the best of the prequels. If you were to ask me to rank all of the films, I?d probably put them in the following order from best to worst: The Empire Strikes Back, A New Hope, Revenge of the Sith, Return of the Jedi, Attack of the Clones, The Phantom Menace. (Ask me again later and I?ll probably change my mind, but this is it at the moment.) [read review]
PARENT'S GUIDE TO ROTS What might scare the poodoo out of kiddies... This guide will help you decide if you can take your kids to the movie. Parent's Guide To Revenge of the Sith.
SPOILER FREE REVIEW by Josh & Scott Q) Does the chemistry between Anakin & Padme get any better :) Josh: Better ... still not perfect, but better. Scott: It is better, but mainly when they are crying and fighting with each other. Portman and Christensen brood and cry well. The romance is still pur cheese.
Q) What grade would you give it? Josh: B+ ... if I see it again I'd LOVE to make it an A- Scott: After a first viewing I'll say a B to a B+. Ask me again after my second viewing. [read review]
BRIAN'S REVIEW Let?s not waste time; this is by far the best film of prequel trilogy! I enjoyed only the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back more than Revenge of The Sith. The movie is a truly an overwhelming experience packed full of almost every critical moment that fans have been clamoring to see since Darth Vader?s true identity was revealed in Empire. Having said that, Episode III suffers from many of the same problems of the previous films, an over reliance on computer generated effects, a weak romantic plot line, and a few wooden performances. EXTERNAL REVIEWS VARIETY The Force returns with most of its original power regained in "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith." Concluding entry in George LucasGeorge Lucas' second three-pack of space epics teems with action, drama and spectacle, and even supplies the odd surge of emotion, as young Anakin Skywalker goes over to the Dark Side and the stage is set for the generation of stories launched by the original "Star Wars" 28 years ago. Whatever one thought of the previous two installments, this dynamic picture irons out most of the problems, and emerges as the best in the overall series since "The Empire Strikes Back." Stratospheric B.O.B.O. is a given. [read review]
THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER The final episode of George Lucas' cinematic epic "Star Wars" ends the six-movie series on such a high note that one feels like yelling out, "Rewind!" Yes, rewind through more than 13 hours of bravery, treachery, new worlds, odd creatures and human frailty. [read review]
AINT IT COOL Really don?t know what to say. I?ve wanted to see Obi-Wan fight Vader on that Lava Planet since that issue of Starlog in 1978. My 6 year old reading comprehension grasping for every word of every article I could get my grubby little hands on. For me, the origin of Vader has been the Holy Grail of my geek soul. That story most coveted, but yet untold. I?m 33 years old now. 27 years lay between me and that boy that dreamt of that fight ? but right now, he?s on my shoulders and we?re slapping high-fives. COMING SOON George Lucas' Star Wars saga comes to a fitting end. While sadly, the same stilted dialogue and bad acting that has run rampant during this latest trilogy is back, Revenge of the Sith brings the action like no other Star Wars film - on land, in the air and to the very depths of Hell. [read review]
TELEGRAPH The fans who have been camping out for weeks in front of cinemas across America will not be disappointed. Lucas has created an eminently satisfying, albeit surprisingly violent, final instalment that brings the story back full circle to the first film. [read review]
FILM FREAK It's not quite as bad as Episode I or Episode II, which is to say that it's not uniquely bad, just run-of-the-mill bad. The dialogue, ghost-written by Tom Stoppard, isn't always unspeakable, and the performances of Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman aren't nearly as wooden as they were the last time around. (Well, Christensen's isn't, anyway.) This lack of cheese presents its own set of problems, however, as Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (hereafter Episode III) is a lot like watching paint dry. [read review]
THE TRADES 28 years and 6 films later, George Lucas?s grand vision set ?a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away? ends with ?Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.? Easily the best installment of the prequel trilogy, we learn just how it is that a young man named Anakin Skywalker, a seemingly good man, can and does become the Sith Lord known as Darth Vader. And Lucas lets us see how this transformation takes place with both plausibility and verve in this wonderful and sometimes startling film. [read review]
LONG ISLAND PRESS The final installment in one of cinema?s most storied sagas is the movie everyone has been waiting for. From the guy in accounting who dresses up as Boba Fett on weekends, to Gen Xers who once had a passing affinity for the films??everyone is going to enjoy Star Wars: Episode III (except little kids, who are going to get seriously freaked out, but we'll get to that later). [read review]
EMPIRE ONLINE "Fear not. 'Sith' happens. Having just seen 'ROTS', it is my happy duty to report that it does not suck. Finally, after six years of criticism, Lucas clearly has a firework up his arse and delivers. If the first two films had only a smattering of 'tingle moments' (Darth Maul and Yoda Fu) then this has at least twenty. When it finished I could only think of one word. "Finally". [read review]
LATINO REVIEW "Episode III" could have used more polishing in the dramatic department, but for the first time in this prequel trilogy the dialogue doesn't sound as if it was written poorly on the back of a napkin. Lucas is known for his inept ability with dialogue and if there's any truth that celebrated playwright Tom Stoppard fine-tuned the screenplay it shows. Unlike the classic trilogy, this prequel series is more about spectacle than story and what we see on the screen is truly spectacular. [read review]
HOLLYWOOD ELSEWHERE If you felt at least somewhat satisfied or soothed by the last two dud Star Wars films... that is, if rock-like dialogue, mummified performances, crazy-beehive CG action scenes and a general skewing to a twelve year-old mentality hasn't presented too much of a problem, Star Wars: Episode 3 -- Revenge of the Sith probably won't feel like too much of a burn.
