Miami EP3 Charity Screening Review Posted By Britany on May 18, 2005
Calla sends in a review of the Miami charity screening of 'Revenge of the Sith', which took place on May 12th:
The Miami charity screening was a very fun, very exciting event. This was not a star filled event, nor was it huge in terms of numbers, but that didn't make a bit of difference to me or others who attended. The screening benefited the Miami Children's Hospital, a group anyone could feel good about donating to. They and the company who planned the event, Holtzman & McKey, really worked hard to make it special - and they succeeded.
Once we were close to the theatre we started to see Troopers all over the place - TK, Sandy, all types. They were set around the theatre and the parking ramp to help direct guests to where we needed to go. Once inside the theatre we were treated to an awe inspiring sight. The entire hallway leading from the lobby to the screening room was lined with Stormtroopers ending with Darth Vader up on a platform - his lightsaber the only illumination used. There were snacks, pop, and popcorn available to take inside the screening room and I helped myself to the Darth Vader M&Ms. Even though I had tickets for "General Seating", I think I had the best seats in the house. Right in the middle of the row, 2/3s of the way up. The movie itself was the highlight of the experience, which is as it should be.
After the movie we were guided by more Troopers who told us to "Move along" towards the party. Like the other screening parties, it was decorated to look like the Cantina scene from A New Hope, complete with alien band. The jazz band playing was wonderful, I have no clue how they were able to play in those costumes. There were so many different characters from the movies present that it made it feel like you really were stepping into the Star Wars universe. One exciting and humorous moment occurred when some Troopers and Boba Fett got into a shoot-out. Jar Jar ran into the middle of it to try to break it up, and was shot. The audience broke out into cheers and applause while Jar Jar was taken out on a stretcher. Not long after this, C-3PO was escorted away from the party by Troopers saying "We don't serve your kind here!".
The food was great, the gift bag was very nice and thoughtful, and the Florida 501st really made it all seem real. As for pictures, they are on the Florida 501st site. Since I am not a member of their group I will not post the link, but would welcome their approval to do so.
