STAR WARS FANS STRIKE BACK
Fans campaign to have Episode III screened at the Grauman's Chinese Theater.
HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - MAY 12 th, 2005 - Members of LININGUP.NET ("LU.N"), a group of Star Wars fans that have been camping out in front of the world famous Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, California for the past 40 days, announced today that some members of the group are beginning a formal campaign to bring Episode III to the Chinese Theater. The campaign is an effort to keep the tradition started six years earlier by the group to camp out on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the theater and see the movie there opening night. Fox executives recently confirmed that Star Wars would not be screened at the Chinese Theater.
"I personally flew from Australia to see this movie at Grauman's Chinese and also to take part in the charity campout organized by LININGUP.NET", said Caroline Ritter, who has almost 800 hours logged in the line. "The main reason I flew this far was because of this theatre. It's the most beautiful theatre I have ever seen. It has the most amazing digital screen and sound..." she continues, "?it's where Star Wars belongs."
The group has opened a new campaign website detailing what line members and supporters are doing to fight back and spread the word about their cause. The website includes a letter writing campaign and plans for a formal protest to be held at the Chinese Theater the morning of the 19 th, should Episode III ultimately not screen at the Chinese.
"We're protesting because we feel that we and Star Wars fans of the world are being deprived of the ultimate Star Wars experience," said Gianennio Salucci, a LU.N member, "The Grauman's Chinese Theater is where Star Wars premiered in 1977 and was specially overhauled in 2002 specifically to show Star Wars. Everyone should have a chance to see it here. It's the Star Wars Mecca. The studios knew we were going to line up here, made the decision to show the movie elsewhere, allowed us to line up for weeks, and then told us for sure the movie wouldn't be playing at the Chinese. They then offered us seats at a nearby theater to screen the movie, only to retract their offer a week later. It isn't right. We just want to see the movie."
