Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith raked in an estimated $35 million on Friday, down about 30 percent in its second day of release. By comparison, the previous prequel, Attack of the Clones, made $24.4 million on its first Friday, off 19 percent, while the first prequel, The Phantom Menace, made $18.5 million.
George Lucas' final prequel has amassed around $85 million in two days, which, if estimates hold, would inch past Spider-Man's $83.0 million as the biggest two-day haul on record. It is already the fourth highest grossing picture of 2005 and could unseat Hitch as the No. 1 movie by the end of its first week.
At its current rate, Revenge of the Sith will likely earn over $100 million this weekend, putting it in the same galaxy as Spider-Man's $114.8 million and Shrek 2's $108.0 million opening weekends. Attack of the Clones' first weekend came in at $80.0 million, and The Phantom Menace's was $64.8 million.
