I just wanted to send a report on our midnight showing at the Brandywine Regal in Wilmington, Delaware.
We arrived at around 9 PM to the 10 theater sold out line that wrapped around the theater. We had scouts lined up around 6 PM so no worries there.
We came in costume as Count Dooku, The Emperor, my fiance as Mara Jade and myself as Darth Vader. We marched toward the line, lightsabers lit and one of our non-costumed friends carried a boombox blaring Vader's Theme. (We had the best entrance!) We walked to the back of the line and then toward the front and stopped to get photos with an Imperial Guard, Darth Maul and other Jedi. There was also a Leia and a Stormtrooper present. So we joined our friends at the front of the line.
The couple behind us told us they met at the Episode I midnight showing and are now married... how cool. So we let them get in front of us since 2 line holders turned into 20 strong so quickly.
Contenders came to us to duel with us Darths. The crowd started singing duel of the fates until we played it over our boombox... and there was much rejoicing!
So finally they led us into the theater in groups of 20-30.
After the theater filled up, Count Dooku and myself (Vader) walked through the theater, up and down the steps and in front of the screen taunting the crowd and searching for any trekkies amongst us. Some of the crowd pointed us to would be trekkies who then denied it when confronted by the 2 Sith Lords. So, we continued our search and then I said "I sense a disturbance in the force. There he is!" Our plant who sat quietly in a dark corner quickly sat up and ripped off his jacket to reveal his starfleet uniform. Everyone booed him. He took out his phaser and began firing upon us. We deflected his blasts while the crowd jeered us on. He performed a trek roll in front of the screen and we backed him into a corner and struck him down. The crowd was yelling "Get that Trekkie!"
Just then, security came in and shined a spotlight on us and told us "Get back in your seats or you will be thrown out!" Either they thought we were really fighting or the crowd was too loud, but not wanting to risk missing the best part of the night, we quickly ran back to our seats.
Soon after the slew of previews began and the movie began to the crowd's jubilation and explosive applause. Well we are just still buzzed by the movie, after much conversation, the general consensus is that it was the Best. Star Wars. Ever. Nothing compares with the midnight premiere and the energy of the fans there. It was just so much fun and a great evening spent with close friends and super fans.
