EP3 Projector Breaks Down at Indiana Theatre Posted By Britany on May 19, 2005
A theatre in Indiana managed to disappoint fans in 9 screens at a midnight screening. Brett writes:
I attended a midnight screening at The Great Escape theatre here in Indiana and the film broke down right before Anakin and Obi-Wan's duel was about to begin. Needless to say, I was inconsolable. Ep. III had, more or less, been ruined for me, at least this screening had been.
Anyway, I went to the cashier's stand immediately, asking for a refund, and was refused. I did not want a ticket for another showing the next day, I simply wanted my money back so I could walk away from the whole mess and forget about it. I didn't think I was asking for a lot, just what I was due. Apparently, all of the screens (9) had broken down and people were coming up behind me, asking for refunds. They were all handed little county fair looking tickets and told that they would be admitted latter, even though the theater had a large sign saying no passes would be accepted for Star Wars. Like I said, I didn't want a pass. In fact, I never intend to return there ever again.
As I came to find out from one of the employees, they had added extra shows by running one print through several projectors in a row. He said that this often caused breakdowns. I was unable to go back into the theater, not just from anger and frustration, but for fear that I may have missed something important. Hence, the entire experience of seeing the final Star Wars movie ever was ruined for me.
When I was asking for (and eventually refused) a refund for the price of my ticket, a fellow patron suggested that the theater should hand out free passes to everyone, as the breakdown happened during the most dramatic part of the film. The manager (or whomever he was) said that he would do no such thing. Only the people who complained would be given a free pass.
They at least doubled, maybe tripled, the amount of screens they were showing this film on for one night, while at least one employee knew that it was very likely that a breakdown of this sort would occur. Then, after it DID occur, they refused this one fan his wish for a refund. I'm not asking for the world here, just what I thought I was due.
Here's hoping everyone else's Episode III was much better.
