Deadlock in Memorial Day Box Office Posted By Joshua on May 30, 2005
The NY Daily News still hasn't found final numbers for the weekend at the box office, but has some new news on the race to be #1. Here's a clip:
"Revenge," the sixth and last film in George Lucas' epic "Star Wars" series, was trying to fend off challenges from "The Longest Yard" and "Madagascar" to win the coveted No. 1 spot on the weekend that traditionally kicks off the all-important summer movie season.
The animated zoo story "Madagascar" and "The Longest Yard," Adam Sandler's remake of the 1974 Burt Reynolds hit about a football game in a prison yard, challenged the dark tragedy of "Sith" with broad comedy.
All three films were on course to finish the Friday-Sunday period in the $50 million range.
