I work for a major US bank and Friday, May 20th was our monthly meeting at a local movie theater. We usually see presentations and whatnot on the big screen.
Well, today they really surprised everyone. The head of our operation (400 employees) started by rattling off a few quick announcements and then said, "Now that we've made things official, how would you like to see the new SW movie?" Everybody flipped out and roared approval. I shouted at the top of my lungs and was surprised that I wasn't even close to being the only one. Many people were heard saying things like "My husband/kids/friends are gonna kill me!" That or they thought it was a joke.
The screen then went straight to the glorious Lucasfilm logo? no previews!
The non-geek crowd seemed very into the movie. They gasped at the appropriate parts (you know) and especially laughed at the R2 and Yoda moments. I was pleased to see that most of the people stayed put the whole movie. There was even a round of applause as the credits rolled.
