ABC Newcastle reports:

A couple's mutual interest in collecting Star Wars action figures has led to romance and ... a marriage proposal at a midnight movie preview.

Newcastle's Brad Gunn surprised his girlfriend Sally ..., by proposing to her in front of a packed cinema at a midnight screening of Star Wars Revenge of the Sith.

"It's a bit surreal and I'm still a bit in shock I think," Sally told 1233's Anthony Scully at a screening in suburban Newcastle.

While Sally hunted down a seat Brad used the pretext of visiting the bathroom to change into a homemade costume of dashing bounty hunter Han Solo.

He reappeared some minutes later in front of the cinema armed with a toy laser gun, where he was challenged by fanatics armed with glowing light sabres.

"I'm a bit short-sighted," said Sally. "So I was trying to work out whether that was actually him or not; anyway I worked out what he was doing and I came down the front and he proposed."
