Catching Up With SW: The Old Republic

Posted By Mike on April 16, 2012

Let's kick things off with last week's SWTOR.com announcement that the highly anticipated Legacy Game Update 1.2 has launched...

"BioWare and LucasArts are excited to announce that Legacy, Game Update 1.2 for Star Wars?: The Old Republic? is now live! This game update includes a number of additions to the game and the next evolution of the Legacy system. Now players will be able to tie their different characters together in a Legacy family tree to unlock new abilities, emotes and other perks. You can learn more about the Legacy system in our Developer Dispatch: The Legacy System.

Additional game systems that are introduced with Game Update 1.2: Legacy include Guild Banks, User Interface customization, unifying your armor colors, and late-game crafting, as well as many others.

In addition to the many new gameplay systems, Game Update 1.2 adds a brand new Operation Explosive Conflict and Warzone Novare Coast, both of which take place on the never-before seen planet of Denova. Furthermore, players will be able to experience the new Flashpoint The Lost Island, the second part of the Rise of the Rakghouls storyline introduced with the Kaon Under Siege Flashpoint.

Game Update 1.2: Legacy also includes new in-game items, such as new armor sets for every character class, and a number of game fixes. You can learn about all of the new content and bug fixes in detail by reading the Game Update 1.2 Patch Notes.

Game Update 1.2 will download automatically the next time you log on to the game through your game launcher. For the latest official news and updates, be sure to check back to www.StarWarsTheOldRepublic.com, as well as our Community Blog, Facebook and Twitter pages."

As noted in the announcement above, SWTOR.com also rolled out a new preview video for Operation: Explosive Conflict:

The official Star Wars: The Old Republic site is celebrating the release of Game Update 1.2 by providing players with the Legacy Tauntaun Ram Pet. Level 50 and Legacy Level 6 players can also receive a free month pf playing time. In addition, former subscribers are being invited back to play for free for a limited time. Click here for details and limitations.

LucasArts, BioWare and Sideshow Collectibles are giving folks who have registered at SWTOR.com the chance to win a 7-feet tall statue of Darth Malgus. What a lovely foyer decoration to welcome the neighbors! Details can be found here.

On the community side of the TOR site, Lead Game Designer Daniel Erickson announced that Ranked Warzones would not be going live with the Legacy Game Update 1.2. Here's an excerpt:

"After careful consideration, it is clear that to make Ranked Warzones the feature we all want it to be is going to take a bit more time. I apologize for any disappointment this may cause and ask for your patience as we work to make sure the Ranked Warzone Preseason launch is polished and fun. With Legacy, the new Warzone, Operation, and Flashpoint, as well as many other amazing features of Game Update 1.2 ready to go, we're very excited for tomorrow's additions."

Game Director James Ohlen took the time to welcome players and fans to the Legacy Update in a post you can read here.

And don't forget that there is a scheduled maintenance on April 17th that will take all of the servers off line for approximately 5 hours. Times are as follows:
