SPOILER: World Without End Posted By Chris on May 17, 2001
TF.N reader J. Hasan alerted us to a subtle detail he noticed on the Star Wars Galaxies website. This could be deemed a HUGE spoiler for Episode 3, so highlight to read: SPOILER(highlight to read) Many people have wondered what became of Naboo after the Prequels. Why wasn't it mentioned in the Classic Trilogy? Why didn't Luke go there for answers -- after all, it was the world that brought Palpatine, Amidala, Obi-Wan, and Anakin together. Quite arguably the most important planet in the entire Star Wars saga. There were droves that began to speculate that the planet became "lost" or "destroyed."
However...
Star Wars Galaxies announced today, along with the screenshots, that Naboo will be an included planet in the game.
They have mentioned that while creating the game, the backstory, etc, during the developmental stage, they HAD to go to LEC at least TWO times to figure out what they COULD and COULD NOT include in the game. After all, there were many "shadowy areas" where Lucas wanted to work in the upcoming movies.
Since Star Wars Galaxies takes place in between the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, during the prime of the Galactic Civil War, I think it's safe to say, according the LEC, that Naboo is very much alive (along with the Gungans :) whilst Luke, Leia, Han, Lando, the wookie, and the droids go about their adventures.
We checked the SW Galaxies site for this. Sure enough, SPOILERthere's a pic of an Imperial AT-ST walking through the Naboo swamp, with a "holy place" statue head sticking out of the marsh, and a kaduu running.
Very cool! Maybe more tidbits about the third prequel will emerge from this new game.
