EP3: Prequels to Dominate Summer 2005 Posted By Joshua on June 21, 2004
The Coshocton Tribune has a new article on the box office take for prequels in Summer 2005. This should be a fun run at the box office:
Many local and area fans are excited that two action movies in 2005 -- one featuring a Jedi Knight, the other a hero known as the Dark Knight -- will duke it out as king of the box office.
The summer of 2005, with its release of "Star Wars: Episode III" and "Batman Begins," may be remembered for its prequel blockbusters. Both movies that tell the back story of previously released films.
Director George Lucas popularized the term "prequel" in the mid-1990s. Lucas announced that he would be filming the events leading up to his popular "Star Wars" trilogy, released between 1977 and 1983.
"Star Wars: Episode III" completes Lucas'prequel trilogy in May 2005. It is the tale of Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight who succumbs to the Dark Side of the Force and becomes Darth Vader, the villain in the original trilogy.
Coshocton resident Shelli Rodgers, a long-time fan of "Star Wars," is excited. She said she has no predictions about the storyline because Lucas always includes twists in each movie.
One of those storyline twists in "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" was that Anakin Skywalker created the droid, C-3PO. Threepio, as he is called, was the faithful sidekick of Anakin's son, Luke, in the original trilogy.
Rodgers would only predict that the newest movie would be as successful at the box office as the other prequels. According to box office statistics, "The Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones" raked in more than $1.5 billion total worldwide.
