Clone Wars Chapter 21 at Tartakovsky Tribute

Posted By Britany on March 21, 2005

Here's a report from Mike, who attended Day 2 of the Genndy Tartakovsky tribute in Los Angeles, on Saturday, March 20th. Those in attendance were treated to a preview of the new Clone Wars series:

For those of us fortunate enough to get tickets to the second night of discussion with Genndy Tartakovsky at the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles, were treated to a full length advance screening of the up-coming "Star Wars: Clone Wars" animated series. And all I can say is "WOW". And as one of the audience members exclaimed to Genndy during the discussion, "THAT'S how a Star wars movie should be made!"

The series will consist of 5 episodes now 12 minutes each rather than the 3 minutes fron the first season. There is more dialogue between characters and the action runs very smoothly between scenes.

The five episodes of Star Wars: Clone Wars Volume II picks up right where Volume I left off -- with a team of Jedi trapped in a wrecked starship on Hypori, being hunted maliciously by General Grievous. As the series progresses, it jumps forward in time, to see Anakin Skywalker as a heroic Jedi Knight, fighting alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi on different battlefronts of the Clone Wars.

The legendary pair is assigned to the distant Outer Rim world of Koobi to root out Separatist activity. Instead, they find a tribal culture steeped in ancient traditions, and Anakin must pass a dangerous trial to survive.

Elsewhere, the action explodes on Coruscant as General Grievous leads a lightning strike on the capital word to capture Chancellor Palpatine, and the Jedi rush to intercept. This story arc serves as the lead-in to Episode III -- where Star Wars: Clone Wars ends, Revenge of the Sith begins.

Several key moments and questions in Star wars history are also answered during the series: We see why C-3PO gets his gold coverings, Padme still holds dear the necklace young Anakin gave her that he carved out of a Japhour snippet and his Padawan braid that has been ceremoniously removed as he is Knighted as a Jedi by Yoda, we see a flashback of young Anakin being led to the mysterious tree on Dagobah as part of his training with Qui-Gon Gin (although Qui Gon never trained him physically since he was killed on Naboo by Darth Maul...this may have been just a dream by Anakin) Also a barrage of new ships and fighters and the fighting skills of General Grevious' bodyguards.

This series is certainly an achievment in story telling and closes the arc between Episodes 2 and 3 and get's you very excited for Revenge of the Sith...May 19th and May the Force Be With You...
