Pernilla August on Swedish TV Posted By Brian on March 19, 1999
The following comes from Fredrik Myklebust :
Hi there, just watched San kvall med Luuk on swedish TV4 tonight Pernilla August was on the show. The whole show started off rather poorly, when Pernilla was introduced, the band played the main theme from INDIANA JONES!! When are those Swedes gonna learn that INDY is NOT SW.
Anyway, Pernilla was in an extremely good mood, and she DID reveal some details about her character Shmi (No spoilers though) She said that Shmi was a very good hearted mother, A mother who really cared about her son. She also said that Shmi was very down to earth, and did whatever she could to realize her sons dreams.
Beside all this she said she was very nervous the first days she was test filming with Liam Neeson, she worried most of all about her Swedish accent. Lucas on the other hand only made fun out of this and told her that her character was a decendant from a Swedish planet.
I have personally seen her in other English speaking movies such as Jerusalem, and her English isnt half as bad as she claims herself. As far as Im concerned she is definetely the greatest actresses ever to have come from Sweden and I would consider it an honour as a Star Wars fan that she took the time to be a part of one of the greatest movies ever to be created..
Liam Gallagher also sent the following report:
Writing about P.August's appearance on a swedish talk-show tonight. (About 10 minutes ago!). Well, she talked a little about the films and showed photos her babysitter had taken from behind the scenes. Nothing dramatic there though. The funny stuff came when the host picked out a number of SW figures for a little test to see how well she knew her characters. Well...she had trouble naming "R2-D2" and she never got a "Stormtropper". Whoops! She also told us about how she got her part. About when she met Mr.McCallum at a film festival in Berlin and 2 weeks later she went for test filming against Liam Neeson. At this time, she was very nervous about the fact she spoke with a swedish accent. She told Mr.Lucas about this but he was very comforting and had said: "Don't worry. She's coming from a swedish galaxy!" :)....
UPDATE! Patrik sent us some screen shots which have been added. Click the pictures for larger shots. Great work!
