Syfy Ventures & Her Universe Announce Deal!

Posted By Mandy on October 12, 2010

After various hints about the team-up from the Her Universe Twitter and the SyFy PR Twitter, an official press release was, um, released today.

####

Syfy Ventures, Syfy’s portfolio of businesses and joint ventures, announced today a deal with Her Universe™, a leader in female genre merchandise, to create a Syfy branded collection of apparel and accessories for the growing female science fiction fan base. Items will be sold under the “Syfy Gear” banner.

“This deal with Her Universe is especially exciting as Syfy’s audience continues to expand and become more gender balanced,” said Alan Seiffert, Senior Vice President, Syfy Ventures. “Her Universe has tapped into exactly what our female fans are looking for in cool genre apparel, and Syfy is uniquely positioned as a brand to partner on creating innovative collections in the space.”

"Today, close to half of all sci-fi fans are women," said Ashley Eckstein, founder of Her Universe. "I created Her Universe to produce merchandise for this growing number of female fans. I am so excited to now expand our brand with Syfy Ventures to create a special collection that reflects the creativity and imagination of their eager female audience."

The "Syfy Gear"/Her Universe collection will include original designs that reflect Syfy’s commitment to engaging the imagination, as well as show-specific merchandise from hit Syfy series such as Caprica, Eureka, Battlestar Galactica, Destination Truth, Ghost Hunters International, Ghost Hunters Academy and Warehouse 13.

Items to be sold include apparel and accessories as well as gifts and novelties and will be available at both Syfy.com and Heruniverseshop.com. Throughout 2011, merchandise will be available at conventions around the country including San Diego Comic Con. Beginning in 2012, merchandise will be available through national retail partners.

Launched in 2008, Syfy Ventures serves as the business development and enterprise unit for Syfy, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies. Syfy’s portfolio of businesses transcends the television screen, and focuses upon next-generation brand extensions, including both media and non-media properties. By cultivating innovative deals through M&A, strategic investments and tactical partnerships, Syfy Ventures meets its mandate to (1) develop immersive transmedia experiences; (2) create robust new revenue streams; and (3) launch targeted products and services that exemplify its “Imagine Greater” tagline worldwide. Venture’s rapidly expanding portfolio includes four major business lines: Gaming, Kids, Online & Mobile, and Consumer Products.

Her Universe was launched in 2010 by Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano in Lucasfilm’s hit animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and her partner, The Araca Group, known as one of the most innovative theatrical production and merchandise companies in the world. Recognizing the lack of product for female genre fans, Her Universe was created to directly address this expanding market by entering into its first agreement with Lucas Licensing to develop and produce a line of female-centered Star Wars apparel and accessories. You can learn more about Her Universe, purchase the current Star Wars product and join the Her Universe message boards by going to www.heruniverse.com and by following Eckstein on Twitter and visiting the Her Universe Facebook page.
