Star Wars Is Everywhere: Episode XXXVII

Posted By Mike on April 23, 2011

Regardless of what you celebrate, we hope you're either having a lovely holiday weekend or a lovely spring weekend. Either way, the addition of Star Wars into the mix should only serve to enhance your good times...

Let's start things out with a feel-good story from Tulsa, Oklahoma's KTLU.com. The Make A Wish Foundation is making the dream of Leukemia patient Matthew Grammer come true by granting his wish to be transformed into R2-D2. University of Tulsa engineering students along with the Little Mountain production company will be creating the fully operational droid. Matthew will be able to sit inside and control R2 when the astromech is completed sometime this summer. Click here for the full story.

Thursday night was Steve Carell's second to last episode on The Office as manager Michael Scott. Gearing up for his last annual company award ceremony known as "The Dundies," Michael decides to make the new incoming manager Deangelo Vickers (Will Ferrell) this year's cohost. Dwight (Rain Wilson) is not pleased that he has been passed up. Check in at the 3:46 mark.

Dwight talking to the camera: "Always the Padawan. Never the Jedi."

The full episode can be viewed at NBC.com or over at HULU.

We love us some Star Wars-related lists and the good folks over at Topless Robot provide us with "The 10 Greatest Star Wars Toys That Hasbro Hasn't Remade."

Considering how popular the Star Wars Volkswagon Superbowl ad was on television and around the interweb, it shouldn't be that shocking that Marvel has created a version with mini-Thor as promotion for the May 6th release of Thor. Check it out at the LA Times Hero Complex.

If stained glass is your thing, Waylou.com directs you over to some Star Wars stained glass creations that are available to purchase at Etsy. They're pricey but I bet they look lovely with twin sun light behind them.

Diving back into another list, Mamapop.com give us the "Top 10 Star Wars Movies That Aren’t Star Wars."

If there's an article out there about twin suns, you better believe Star Wars is going to get referenced. From CSMonitor.com...

"Luke Skywalker's home planet of Tatooine is a vivid desert world under two suns, but it may be missing one key detail: black trees.

According to a new study, Earth-like alien planets with multiple suns may host trees and shrubs that are black or gray instead of the more familiar green.

It all depends on the particulars of the light available for photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert sunlight into energy. Photosynthesis produces oxygen and ultimately provides the basis for most life on Earth."

The Northampton Patch provides coverage of a fun Star Wars event that was held at the Free Library of Northampton Township in Pennsylvania last Wednesday.

Another Star Wars library event got some press coverage as well; this time from Cleveland.com for an event at the Westlake Porter Public Library.

Starwars.com gives us a look at Stephen Hayford's Earth Day Star Wars message for 2011.

And rounding things out for this edition of SWIE, the Official SW.com Blog makes sure we're aware that even Chewie hates shoveling snow...
